Krav Maga was developed by its founder, Master Imi Lichtenfeld as a means of defending against anti-Semetic gang attacks in the late 1930's.
Later chosen by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) in the early 1940's, Master Imi was selected to teach Krav Maga, which means 'Contact Combat' in Hebrew as it's preferred Self Defence System for it's armed forces.
Krav Maga was chosen by the IDF as it is the most effective, and easy to learn self defence system to date, it's defences against 'real-World' situations has since made it the Number 1 Self Defence System in the World! Now used by military and law enforcement agencies around the globe.
Whilst not a traditional Martial Art, Krav Maga of course isn't a self-made system, it incorporates techniques and principals sourced from traditional Martial Arts that have stood the test of time such as Muay Thai, Boxing, Aikido, Judo, BJJ and Karate. It was adapted for the IDF from Imi's original system to include defence from attackers with a gun, both pistol and long-arm.
Due to the hostile environment in the State of Israel, nestled between a number of Islamic countries and over a history of conflict on the streets, most residents of Israel have learnt Krav Maga so that they can better protect themselves and their loved ones.
Despite not being a true Martial Art, Krav Maga strongly follows and instils the virtues associated with a traditional Martial Art such as Honour, Confidence, Loyalty, Courage, Strength, Benevolence and Commitment just to name a few.
